Every year the RRB conducts a recruitment drive for the selection of candidates to fill in various technical positions. RRB JE is one of the most important exams conducted by RRB every year to fill in vacancies in different departments like Junior Engineer (JE), Junior Engineer (Information Technology) Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) & Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA). The Railway Recruitment Board shall appoint 15000+ more junior engineers as compared to the previous 2019 recruitment. The RRB JE 2021 Selection Process includes 4 stages which the candidates need to successfully complete to proceed further in the recruitment process In this article, we have mentioned all the details of the exam pattern of the different stages of the RRB JE exam. RRB JE 2021 Exam Pattern

You shall come across four stages in the RRB JE 2021 selection process. You have to pass the first two stages for appearing for the Document Verification as well as the Medical Examination stage.  The following are the stages of the RRB JE 2020 selection process.

  1. CBT (Computer Based Test) Stage – I
  2. CBT (Computer Based Test) Stage – II
  3. Document Verification 
  4. Medical Examination

CBT Stage – I Exam pattern

There shall be a total of 100 objective type questions each carrying 1 mark. The exam shall be marked negatively for each incorrect answer. Candidates shall lose -0.33 mark for every incorrect answer. There shall be 4 sections containing a different set of questions in the fields of Math’s, GK, General Science as well as Reasoning. The minimum passing marks (percentage) for each category is given below:

  • General category candidates shall have to score around 40% (40 marks) for qualifying to Stage 2.
  • OBC & SC candidates shall have to score at least 30% (30 marks) in Stage 1 for qualifying to Stage 2.
  • ST candidates should score around 25% (25 marks) in Stage 1 for proceeding to Stage 2.

CBT Stage –II Exam Pattern

RRB JE Recruitment Stage 2 is a computer-based test and shall also be conducted in an online mode. The total number of questions in Stage 2 shall be 150. There shall be 5 sections in this stage containing different questions on General Knowledge, General Science, Computer Applications, Basics of Environment as well as a section on Technical Abilities. Candidates can only qualify for Stage 2 on obtaining minimum qualifying scores in Stage 1.

  • Each question in the exam shall carry 1 mark, and there are a total of 150 questions for 150 marks. There is a negative marking of 1/3rd marks for every incorrect answer. Students shall be provided with a virtual calculator on their screen in case of the Stage 2 exam.

  • Candidates belonging to the general or unreserved category should score around 40% (60 marks) in Stage 2. 
  • OBC & SC candidates should obtain some 30% (45 marks) in Stage 2 for qualifying the RRB JE 2021 Recruitment. 
  • Candidates who belong to the ST category shall have to score 25% or 37.50 marks for clearing Stage 2.

Stage III:  Document Verification

Once the candidates clear the Second Stage of CBT(Computer Based Test)  as per the cut-offs decided by the Railway Recruitment Board, you shall be called in for the 3rd stage which is the Document Verification Process. After this, the final stage shall be the Medical Examination. Aspirants shall have to produce their original documents as given below. No photocopies of the originals, shall be accepted at any cost.  Following is the list of all the documents that need to be carried out for this stage in the recruitment process.

  1. Matriculation/10th standard Certificate or Equivalent certificate like Proof of Date of Birth(DOB).
  2. 10 +2 / Higher Secondary/PUC certificates of candidates shall be required. 
  3. Diploma / Engineering/Science Degree Certificate along with Semester wise Mark Sheets are needed.
  4. SC/ST certificates if applicable.
  5. OBC-NCL(Non-Creamy Layer) certificates as required.
  6. Non-creamy layer declaration certificate in case of OBC candidates.
  7. Income Certificates of candidates are required.
  8. Minority Community certificates of candidates required. 

Stage IV: Medical Examination (Final Stage) 

As a part of the RRB JE 2021 Selection Process, candidates who have qualified the first three stages including the two written tests, as well as the documentation process, shall have to pass the final medical test conducted by the authorities. This test is for ensuring that the candidates are medically fit for carrying out their duties in a duly manner.  Following are the medical standards a candidate needs to fulfill to clear the final stage. 

In the case of A-3 Medical Standard Category: 

  • The candidate should be physically fit.(Factors like a good BMI, efficient performance of heart & lungs and steady blood pressure) 
  • Visual Standards should include the following particulars –
    • Distance Vision of the candidate should comprise 6/9, 6/9 with or with no glasses.
    • Near Vision of the candidate should include Sn: 0.6,0.6 with or with no glasses.
    • The candidate belonging to the A-3 medical category should definitely pass the test for Colour Vision, Mesopic, Binocular Vision as well as Night Vision.

In the case of B-1 Medical Standard Category: 

  • The candidate should be physically fit. (Factors like a good BMI, efficient performance of heart & lungs and steady blood pressure) 
  • Visual Standards should include the following particulars-
    • Distance Vision of the candidate should comprise: 6/9, 6/12 with or with no glasses
    • Near Vision of the candidate should include Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or with no glasses when reading or any kind of close work is the requirement. 
    • The candidate in the B-1 Medical category should definitely pass the tests concerning Colour Vision, Mesopic Vision, Binocular Vision as well as Night Vision. 

In the case of B-2 Medical Standard Category: 

  • The candidate should be physically fit. (Factors like a good BMI, efficient performance of heart & lungs and steady blood pressure) 
  • Visual Standards include the following particulars :
    • Distance Vision of the candidate should be: 6/9, 6/12 with or with no glasses
    • Near Vision of the candidate should comprise: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required
    • Candidates should definitely pass the Binocular Vision test in the case of B-2. 

In the case of C-1 Medical Standard Category: 

  • The candidate should be physically fit. (Factors like a good BMI, efficient performance of heart & lungs and steady blood pressure) 
  • Visual Standards- This include Distance Vision particulars like:
    • Distance Vision of the candidate should be 6/12, 6/18 with glasses, or with no glasses.
    • Near Vision of the candidate should be Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or with no glasses when reading or perhaps working closely is required.
